This earthquake was felt across the Caribbean region. Latest reports indicate that at least 2,200 people have been killed, around 10,000 others have been injured and thousands of homes and buildings have been either destroyed or damaged. The majority of the damage and casualties have occurred in the Nippes Department in the southwest region of Haiti.

This earthquake locates around 100km west of the magnitude 7.0 Mw event on 12 January 2010 which killed over 200,000 people.
