This earthquake occurred in a mountainous area in Luding County, Sichuan province, China approximately 200 km southwest of Chengdu, the capital of the province. Latest reports from the region indicate that at least 93 people have been killed, with 25 still reported as missing, over 420 have been injured and many roads and homes near the epicentre have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the many landslides in the region.
