Epicentre was 100km ENE of Miyako, Japan (population ~50,000). Strong shaking was reported in NE Honshu, however there have been no reports of any casualties or major damage at this time. A tsunami warning was issued for coastal areas of NE Japan with residents being told to evacuate immediately; this has now been downgraded to an advisory meaning tsunami waves are expected to be below 1m in height as was observed at several points along the NE coast.
